Sadie Engelhardt, a ninth-grader at Ventura High in California, lowered her own freshman class national record in the girls 3,200 meters by clocking 9:50.69 to produce the fastest prep performance in the country this season at the Ventura County Championships at Moorpark High. Engelhardt also returned to the track less than 20 minutes later to anchor a second-place finish in the invitational 4x400-meter relay with a 57-second split as Ventura clocked 4:01.39. Engelhardt, who covered the final lap of the 3,200 in 66.86 seconds, elevated to No. 2 all-time in California in the 3,200 and seventh in prep history among combined 3,200 and 2-mile efforts. She eclipsed the 2013 meet record of 10:06.74 established by Sarah Baxter of Simi Valley and trails only Kim Mortensen of Thousand Oaks on the state list with her 9:48.59 performance from 1996.
